Immortals Review (From a 300 Perspective)
Immortals 2011
Last night I went to watch Immortals the highly anticipated movie from the producer of 300 (as advertised on all the posters). Being a fan of 300 I was apprehensive about the movie, fearing that it would not be able to live up to my expectations of blood, action and epic quotes that have made the battle of 300 so awsome!!
Well after watching it I felt the urge to share the outcome with those who have seen it. and get your views. I PERSONALLY don’t think that is was as good as 300 and however it was a pretty good film.
Here is my view on various aspects.
The Storyline
Immortal actually has a story. It shows the hero ( Theseus ) going through various quest before finally fighting the King Hyperion and his army toward the end.
300 on the other hand can be summarise in one sentence: 300 men stood against the biggest army in the world to defend Sparta, Ahooooo!!
The Action
Side note: I had to watch Immortal in 3D as it is the only format that was available at the cinema which I really find irritating as fast action and 3d glasses seems ton only result in a blurred vision that I really not need to pay money for.
The action in Immortal is actually pretty good and I but especially I particularly enjoyed watching some of the Gods fighting scene as they got evolved in the battle opening some serious cans of whoop ass. The 3D worked pretty well too as they used that slowing down and fast-forwarding effect to enable to see in detail some of the lightning fast action.
As for blood there was plenty. One extra bit was a few torture scenes that will make most people cringe on their sits. You will know the one I’m talking about when u see it or If you’ve seen it.
Acting
I’m not a good at judging this part so will leave that to you but I just wanted to mention that Henry Cavill ( The New Superman) did a pretty good job at playing the hero in this one and may actually be able to feel the boots of the man of steel.
Epicness
I had to create that word as it is the only one I can think of that will describe the difference between the two movies.
Immortal has great fighting scenes and puts and a battle so great that even the gods got evolved but somehow doesn’t have the memorable one liners that made 300 so epic. The Main Speech before the final battle, is just not catchy enough. I actually can’t remember it, except maybe from “ …Today we fight… for Immortality”. If you never heard the King Leonidas famous words “Give them Nothing!! Take away EVRYTHING!!” or “This… IS… SPARTA!!” you will understand what I mean.
Overall
Overall I’ll give it 7/10 ( 3.5 stars). As much as it pains me to say this…. It seems like a movie with no story line other then 300 men fighting for survival and shouting (Ahoooo Ahooo Ahooo!!) is better to me than the story of Theseus in 3D. Take away the comparison to 300, it’s a great movie on it’s own but it’s this piece gonna earn it’s place amongst the “Immortals”? I don’t think so…
